Soul Beat Day At The New Parish

The Second Annual Soul Beat Day will be held on Saturday, July 30th from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Soul Beat continues to reign as an iconic brand that gives aspiring talent and small businesses the exposure they deserve. From its founding in 1978 to the present day, every community member shows love and appreciation to the television network that connects them all.

Let’s take you back to where it all began…

In 1988, the City of Oakland first proclaimed July 30th as “Soul Beat Day” for its incredible contributions to Oakland culture. From fresh talent to bold voices, Soul Beat TV Network was the melting pot for rising stars in the Bay Area.

This year, “Soul Beat Day” returns.

Mark your calendars for July 30th Saturday From 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., we will be hosting a special commemorative event at The New Parrish.

Calling Our Local Celebrities To Center Stage

To ensure Soul Beat Day is a smash hit, we have opened our doors to anyone and everyone in the community! Some of your favorites from back in the day will be popping in to show their love for Oakland’s rich culture and unmatched history.

If so, you simply can’t miss the chance to share your story with a community that cares! This event will feature testimonials, video screenings, live performances — and the opportunity for attendees to tell their own “Soul Beat Story.”

Reintroducing “Soul Beat Day” to the modern masses not only evokes fond memories for Oaklanders but creates new opportunities to further the network’s historic legacy.

The owner, Chuck Johnson, had a lot to say about bringing Soul Beat to the 21st century!

“This is just the beginning,” Johnson said. “My intention is to give the new generation a picture of what ‘Soul Beat’ was. Once they get that, it becomes part of their culture, and we can present ‘Soul Beat’ for today.”
